Corona's scary presence By San (Andrews), the Author of Too Bitter to Swallow

The triumphant Corona virus is smashing ahead with all the virulence and intensity that it can afford in its nascent stage. Mind you, the mutation stage is in process and there is no guarantee that this devilish micro-organism will not assume more devastating proportions. The mankind which has already been brought to its knees may even be forced into prostration in the coming days or months. Such is the speed and venom with which this  (arguably the most feared of all) virus is galloping ahead like a warhorse numbing every economy not only the budding but even the matured ones in its stride to the extent of grinding to a halt the everlasting phenomenon called life.

Will life stop forever? Even Gods may keep mum on that question because he may not be sure about it!

Let us skim through the six-month-old history of Corona since it made its scary presence felt in December last or January beginning and the hellish ramifications that it unleashed. After that there was no looking back and the minuscule and invisible even to naked eyes virus was undergoing a roller-coaster ride flying from continent to continent, then from country to country and at last from province or state to province or state.

The most modernised, Westernised and some of the Asian countries, even China (Corona's father) and Japan - save a few of them like Taiwan and New Zealand- have borne, are bearing and will continue to bear its ruthless brunt to the core only to reduce themselves to mute and helpless spectators. That mind-boggling spread is unfettered and beyond imagination. No sign of any vaccine yet, even though muffled hurrahs of success can be heard from here and there.

The most emphatic hurrah came from an Indian scientist who went on to claim that Corona would be wiped out by the coming October. We can only wait and see.

The so-called sophisticated, self-styled and imperialistic saviours of the world like USA are at a loss to understand the huge number of confirmed cases and deaths they register. The saving grace is that death rate has been bridled to a minimum of 10 per cent.

What if the mutation stage throws up a Lucifer-like avatar precipitating all sorts of trouble for mankind and its developmental strategies. Already it has taken the steam out of many economies by restricting them to a prolonged lock-down. At that time Nature was in command of the whole world. Atmosphere had started turning pure. Then people began breathing pure air. Many maximum cities like New Delhi and Mumbai, notorious for their contaminated and polluted atmosphere, started breathing comparatively fresh and pure air. The holes ruptured in the Ozone Layer due to the Global Warming vanished within no time.

Why? Vehicles - two-wheelers and four-wheelers for that matter - were off the roads. Flights were off the air. Everything that facilitates transportation was in limbo.

Then what! Two-wheelers and four-wheelers were confined to their respective domestic sheds or roadsides. Planes, jets, copters and all those flying machines were grounded and rendered a spooky look in the nightmarish silence of airports. In fact, Corona had pushed the whole world into a depression-like state thanks to the lock-down that kick-started all those death-like predicament.

But when governments worldwide relaxed the stranglehold of lock-down all those moving machines started trickling back into their respective domain. Still floodgates of their activities are yet to open. It is a long way from reality because of the slippery nature of all viruses especially Corona. Nobody can rule out the possibility of its bouncing back! So Governmental heads all over the world are advocating a new mantra now: learn to live with Corona in tow which means swim by elbowing it to the margins or sink with it.

Now it seems, due to the gradual relaxation in lock-down, the world is dragging its feet back to normalcy. Whether this movement at a snail's pace will culminate or not, in a full-fledged and normal life as earlier before Corona made its debut, is anybody's guess.

For God's sake do not underestimate Corona and its idiosyncrasies! Thus let us not slip into complacency.
